Acquaforte di 189x135 mm. Firmata sulla lastra in alto a dx: Castiglione. Incollata agli angoli su cartoncino. Bell’esemplare.

Pittore e incisore italiano fra i massimi esponenti della scuola barocca genovese. L’origine e la formazione ligure portano il Castiglione a conoscere la pittura fiamminga, in particolare grazie allo studio di artisti come Jaan Roos e Van Dyck, svilupperà un cromatismo caldo e vibrate.
Egli ebbe anche un ruolo decisivo nello sviluppo della tecnica dell’incisione infatti è considerato l’inventore del monotipo. I temi più cari che svilupperà sia in pittura che nelle incisioni sono temi a soggetto biblico o mitologico e spesso le scene sono affollate da animali.

Italian painter and engraver among the greatest exponents of the Baroque school of Genoa. The Ligurian origin and training brought Castiglione to know Flemish painting, in particular thanks to the study of artists such as Jaan Roos and Van Dyck, he will develop a warm chromatism and vibrate. He also had a decisive role in the development of the engraving technique, in fact he is considered the inventor of the monotype. The most expensive themes that he will develop both in painting and in engravings are biblical or mythological themes and often the scenes are crowded with animals.
