Mezzatinta. 218x162 mm. Piccoli margini. Margine superiore parzialmente incollato su foglio di supporto. Sotto l’immagine: a sin. ‘Nro 18’; al centro ‘"à Augsburg chez I. I. Haid et fils’. Lievi tracce d’uso.

Curiosa rappresentazione allegorica del Carnevale. La signora, molto elegante con un copricapo piumato, tiene in mano una maschera ma lo sguardo e la postura esprimono una evidente malinconia.
Johann Jakob Haid e Johann Elias Haid erano membri di una famiglia tedesca di artisti e incisori attivi nel XVIII e XIX secolo. Johann Jakob era un ritrattista e incisore che studiò con Johann Elias Ridinger. Ha insegnato incisione a suo figlio, Johann Elias, che in seguito ha lavorato anche nella litografia e ha eseguito opere dopo artisti del passato come Rembrandt e Cranach. Gli Haid hanno lavorato insieme come J.J. Haid e figlio. Hanno prodotto numerose stampe di ritratti e hanno anche realizzato le incisioni per Georg Dionysius Ehret per una serie di importanti collezioni di stampe botaniche curate da Trew e Weinmann.

Curious allegorical representation of the Carnival. The lady, very elegant with a plumed headdress, holds a mask in her hand but her gaze and posture express an evident melancholy.
Johann Jakob Haid and Johann Elias Haid were members of a German family of artists and engravers active in the 18th and 19th centuries. Johann Jakob was a portraitist and engraver who studied with Johann Elias Ridinger. He taught engraving to his son, Johann Elias, who later worked in lithography as well, and executed works after Old Master artists such as Rembrandt and Cranach. The Haids worked together as J.J. Haid and Son. They produced numerous portrait prints and also made the engravings after botanical artist Georg Dionysius Ehret for a number of important collections of botanical prints edited by Trew and Weinmann.
