Importantissimo documento in cui è annunciato il Protettorato francese per le isole dell’arcipelago Comore, nell’Oceano Indiano. Mayotte divenne ufficialmente una colonia francese nel giugno 1843. Nel 1846 vi fu abolita la schiavitù. Quarant'anni dopo, le altre tre isole dell'arcipelago, Grande Comore, Anjouan e Mohéli, divennero protettorati francesi (con accordi nel 1886 per Grande Comore, nel 1887 per Anjouan e nel 1892 per Mohéli). Divennero colonie solo nel 1912, 70 anni dopo Mayotte.
Il Progetto di legge è presentato dal Presidente della Repubblica Jules Grevy, dal Ministro della Marina e delle Colonie, il Vice-ammiraglio Theophile Aube, dal Ministro delle Finanze Sadi François Carnot e dal Presidente del Consiglio, Ministro degli Affari Esteri, Charles Louis de Saulces de Freycinet.
Sadi Marie François Carnot, 1837 – 1894, fu deputato dal febbraio 1871 al dicembre 1887, poi Presidente della Repubblica dal 3 dicembre 1887 al 25 giugno 1894.

Very important document announcing the French Protectorate for the islands of the Comoros archipelago, in the Indian Ocean. Mayotte became an official French colony in June 1843. In 1846, slavery was abolished there. Forty years later, the three other islands in the archipelago, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli, became French protectorates (with agreements in 1886 for Grande Comore, in 1887 for Anjouan, and 1892 for Mohéli). They only became colonies in 1912, 70 years after Mayotte.
The law proposal is presented by the President of the Republic Jules Grevy, by the Minister of the Navy and the Colonies, Vice-Admiral Theophile Aube, by the Minister of Finance Sadi François Carnot and by the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Charles Louis de Saulces de Freycinet.
Sadi, Marie François Carnot, 1837 – 1894, was a member of parliament from February 1871 to December 1887, then President of the Republic from 3 December 1887 to 25 June 1894.
