4to. 218 x 158mm. Legatura in piena pergamena del XVI secolo, fogli di guardia successivi. Carte 182 non numerate. Incipit a carta a2r. Le carte [1], [13] e [182] bianche. Segn.: [pi greco]12 a-v8 x10. Le carte iniziali [2-11] contengono: “Tabula operis huius … “Colophon al verso della carta 181 “Erhardus Ratdolt Augustensis ... non paruo studio impensisque emendatissime impressit Uenetijs … 1483. Idibus Septembris” [13. IX]. Stampato in rosso e nero, Iniziali xilografate, Carattere Gotico e Romano. Marginalia di mano antica. Iscrizione non leggibile sul margine superiore della carta a2r con data “(15)27 die 23 Iulii”. Abile restauro alla legatura e alle carte bianche a1 e x10, e alla carta 08. Qualche lieve difetto, buon esemplare. 

Seconda edizione, la prima che include la continuazione fino al 1481 dell’umanista Matteo Palmieri. Viene menzionato Gutenberg e l’invenzione della stampa (v3 verso): “Quantum litterarum studiosi Germanis debeant nullo satis dicendi genere posset. Namque a loanne Gutenberg Zuningen equiti Maguntie rheni solerti ingenio librorum Imprimendorum ratio 1440 inuenta: hoc tempore in omnes fere orbis partes propagatur: qua omnis antiquitas paruo ere comparata: posterioribus infinitis voluminibus legitur.” Si tratta della terza citazione riportata, dopo quella del 1474 nella "Chronica" di Riccobaldo da Ferrara e quella del 1483 nel Supplementum chronicarum di Jacopo Filippo Foresti.
Le Cronache di Eusebio, in due libri, furono composte all’inizio del IV secolo: il testo originale greco andò perduto insieme al primo libro. Il secondo libro, in forma tabellare, contiene la storia del mondo da Abramo fino ai vicennalia di Costantino I nel 325 d.C. San Girolamo, che la tradusse in latino, continuò la cronologia che fu poi proseguita da Tiro Prospero fino al 455. In questa edizione l’opera cronologica viene completata fino alla fine del 1481.

Condition Report

4to, 218 x 158 mm. Full vellum binding of XVIth century, later endpapers. 182 not numbered leaves. Incipit on leaf a2r. The first leaves containing: Tabula operis huius … “Colophon on verso of leaf 181 “Erhardus Ratdolt Augustensis ... non paruo studio impensisque emendatissime impressit Uenetijs … 1483. Idibus Septembris” [13. IX]. Woodcut initials, printed in red and black, numerous contemporary marginal annotations, Illegible ownership inscription to title-page dated 23 July 1527. Skillful restorations on binding and on blank leaves a1, x10 and 08. Some slight defects, good copy.

Second edition, the first including the continuation up to 1481 by the humanist Matteo Palmieri. Gutenberg and the invention of printing are mentioned (v3 verso): “Quantum litterarum scholars Germanis debeant nullo satis dicendi genere posset. The Chronicles of Eusebius, in two books, were composed at the beginning of the fourth century: the original Greek text was lost together with the first book. The second book, in tabular form, contains the history of the world from Abraham to the vicennalia of Constantine I in AD 325. St. Jerome, who translated it into Latin, continued the chronology which was then continued by Tiro Prospero up to 455. In this edition the chronological work is completed up to the end of 1481.
