8vo, 205x145 mm; legatura in piena pergamena. Tagli a spuzzo celesti. Cc. (8), 197, (7). Frontespizio figurato entro cornice architettonica. Grande marca tipografica in fine. Ritratti di Laura e del Petrarca, tavola con veduta di Valchiusa, 6 vignette, numerose iniziali istoriate, tutto in xilografia. Testo contornato dal commento, stampato in caratteri più piccoli. 

Prima edizione stampata dal Giolito con tale caratteristica tipografica (edizione con colophon datato 1543, come nella nostra copia).
Uno delle più interessanti opere figurate del Petrarca del ‘500, questo libro è stato oggetto di censura alle cc. 136-147 (7 cc.) laddove il Petrarca parla male della perfida Babilonia. Il testo è stato reintegrato, all’epoca, con quello della edizione successiva del 1547, sempre del Gioacchino che si differenzia da questa per il carattere.

8vo, 205x145 mm; Full vellum binding. Light blue sprayed edges. leaves (8), 197, (7). Illustrated title page within architectural frame. Large printer’s device at the end. Portraits of Laura and Petrarca, plate with a view of Valchiusa, 6 vignettes, numerous historiated initials, all in woodcut. Text surrounded by comment, printed in smaller type.

First edition printed by Giolito with this typographical feature (edition with colophon dated 1543, as in our copy).
One of Petrarch's most interesting works of the 16th century, this book was censored in cc. 136-147 (7 cc.) where Petrarch speaks ill of perfidious Babylon. The text was reintegrated at the time with that of the later 1547 edition, also by Joachim, which differs from this one for the type.
