Prima edizione magnificamente figurata. È illustrata la grandiosa festa organizzata per l’ingresso a La Haye del Re della Gran Bretagna Guglielmo III d'Orange-Nassau. Nierop: “[the] costliest and most elaborate public display ever held on Dutch soil”. I due direttori dei festeggiamenti furono Govert Bidloo (1649-1713), medico personale di Re Guglielmo, e Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708), uno dei più grandi artisti del Secolo d'Oro olandese. De Hooghe non solo ha partecipato allo sviluppo del programma dei festeggiamenti, ma è stato anche responsabile dell'incisione delle magnifiche tavole che illustrano questo volume commemorativo. La superba illustrazione è composta da un ritratto di Guglielmo III di Pieter van Gunst da un disegno di John Brandon e da 15 tavole fuori testo incise da Romeyn de Hooghe con didascalia in francese e olandese, 11 a doppia pagina e 3 a piena pagina. Le incisioni di Romeyn de Hooghe mostrano il corteo, gli archi di trionfo, il Vyverberg e il Binnenhof, le decorazioni appositamente progettate per l'evento, che comprendono opere di pittura e scultura e un fantasmagorico spettacolo pirotecnico.

Folio, 380x256 mm. Full vellum binding. Leaves (7), including Frontispiece and Portrait, 127 pp., 14 plates o.t. Lacking paper on the corner of the lower margin. Good specimen.

Beautifully illustrated first edition. The magnificent celebration organized for the entry into La Haye of the King of Great Britain William III of Orange-Nassau is illustrated. Nierop: “[the] costliest and most elaborate public display ever held on Dutch soil”. The two directors of the celebrations were Govert Bidloo (1649-1713), King William's personal doctor, and Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708), one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age. De Hooghe not only participated in the development of the program of the celebrations, but was also responsible for the engraving of the magnificent plates illustrating this commemorative volume. The superb illustration consists of a portrait of William III by Pieter van Gunst from a drawing by John Brandon and 15 out-of-text plates engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe with captions in French and Dutch, 11 double-page and 3 full-page. Romeyn de Hooghe's engravings show the procession, the triumphal arches, the Vyverberg and the Binnenhof, the decorations specially designed for the event, which include works of painting and sculpture and a phantasmagorical fireworks show.
