Marca tipografica con iniziali O.S.M. nel recto dell’ultima carta bianca. Testo su due colonne, carattere gotico. Numerose iniziali xilografiche, molte su fondo criblé. Alcuni marginalia di mano antica. Bell’esemplare.

Rarissime edizioni. Sono raccolte in unico volume i due fondamentali commenti di Benzi sui testi di Ippocrate e Galeno. Il commento alla prima opera fa riferimento al “De Arte Medica” di Galeno, conosciuta con il nome di Tegni (deformazione della parola greca t????, "arte"). Durante il Medioevo, infatti, si indicava con la dicitura greca t???? ?at???? l’Ars medica di Galeno; la seconda opera contiene il commento agli Aforismi di Ippocrate. Questi commenti a Ippocrate e Galeno nacquero, secondo i costumi dell'epoca, per l’insegnamento nelle Università dei testi classici: i dubbi, i problemi, le discussioni che sorgevano dalla spiegazione dei maestri e dalle domande dei discepoli costituivano la base delle quaestiones, attraverso le quali si tentava di approfondire lo studio degli antichi maestri, e che erano parte integrante dei commentari.
Ugo Benzi, 1360 ca – 1439, nato a Siena, studiò inizialmente presso lo Studio Senese, poi insegnò a Siena, Parma, Bologna, Pavia, Perugia e forse anche alla Sorbona, fu medico del re di Francia che lo chiamò a Parigi. Nel 1437 prese parte al Concilio di Ferrara, su chiamata di Nicolò III d’Este, che dal Benzi era stato guarito da una grave malattia della pelle.

Very rare editions. In one volume are bound two fundamental Benzi’s comments on the Hippocrates and Galenus’ texts.
The commentary on the first work refers to Galen's “De Arte Medica”, known by the name of Tegni (deformation of the Greek word t????, "art"). During the Middle Ages, in fact, the Ars medica of Galen was indicated by the Greek term t???? ?at????; the second work contains the commentary on the Aphorisms of Hippocrates. These comments on Hippocrates and Galen were born, according to the customs of the time, for the teaching of classical texts in universities: the doubts, problems, discussions from the explanations of the masters and the questions of the disciples constituted the basis of the quaestiones, through which attempts were made to deepen the study of the ancient masters, and which were an integral part of the commentaries.
Ugo Benzi, ca 1360 – 1439, born in Siena, initially studied at the Studio Senese, then taught in Siena, Parma, Bologna, Pavia, Perugia and perhaps also at the Sorbonne, was doctor to the King of France who called him to Paris. In 1437 he took part in the Council of Ferrara, at the request of Nicolò III d'Este, who had been cured of a serious skin disease by Benzi.
