Rarissima edizione originale del Manifesto del Mesmerismo. Si tratta della prima esposizione sistematica delle teorie di Mesmer: contiene il rendiconto delle esperienze di Mesmer a Vienna, preannunzia l’arrivo a Parigi, ed espone le celebri 27 proposizioni note col nome di “Aforismi”. 100 Books Famous in Medicine: “In 1779 Mesmer published his Mémoire sur la découverte du magnétisme animal, his manifesto on the subject of animal magnetism, containing twenty-seven propositions that supposedly accounted for the cures he effected, as well as case histories of some of the patients he had treated successfully in Vienna. Another version of the work in duodecimo format, with different pagination, possibly a piracy, was also published in 1779.” P.M.M.: “He maintained that a magnetic fluid pervades the universe, exists in every living being, and affects the nervous system... Suggestibility on the part of the patient can, without question, be the key to his recovery; and having found this out Mesmer became, unwittingly, a pioneer of psychotherapy”.
