8vo, 163x100 mm. Legatura in piena pergamena del ‘700, titolo manoscritto al dorso. Pp. [56], 525, [3]. Marca dello stampatore alla prima e all’ultima carta. Note mss. antiche al frontespizio, alcune sottolineature e note marginali, leggero segno d’umidità al margine interno, nel complesso buon esemplare.

Seconda edizione aldina delle epistole di Plinio il Giovane, ristampa della prima del 1508, con la stessa lunga dedica di Aldo ad Alvise Mocenigo e con la stessa curiosità della numerazione delle pagine impressa sempre in alto a destra. Rispetto alla prima, tuttavia, quest'edizione ha in più il ricco ''Index rerum memorabilium'' e la ''Latina interpretatio dictionum et sententiarum graecarum'' (ff. 12-26 preliminari). Oltre l'Epistolario completo di Plinio il Giovane, il volume contiene anche il ''Panegyricus Traiano'' ed il ''De viris illustribus'' del medesimo, il ''De claris grammaticis et rhetoribus'' di Svetonio ed il ''Prodigiorum liber'' di Julius Obsequens.

Condition Report

8vo, 163x100 mm. Full vellum binding of 18th century, handwritten title on spine. Pp. [56], 525, [3]. Printer’s device on first and last leaves. Handwritten note of ownership on titlepage, some underlining and marginal handwritten notes, slight dampstain on inner margin; good specimen.

Aldo's second edition of the Epistles of Pliny the Younger, reprinted from the first edition of 1508, with the same long dedication by Aldo to Alvise Mocenigo and with the same curious page numbering imprinted in the upper right-hand corner. Compared to the first, however, this edition has in addition the rich ‘’Index rerum memorabilium‘’ and the ‘’Latina interpretatio dictionum et sententiarum graecarum‘’ (leaves 12-26 preliminary). In addition to Pliny the Younger's complete Epistolary, the volume also contains Pliny the Younger's ‘’Panegyricus Trajanus‘’ and ‘’De viris illustribus‘’, Suetonius‘ “”De claris grammaticis et rhetoribus’‘ and Julius Obsequens’ ‘’Prodigiorum liber‘’.
