Report of the third Battle of the Dardanelles, which took place on 26 and 27 June 1656 during the Cretan War. The battle ended with the victory of Venice and its allies over the Ottoman Empire; however the Venetian commander, Lorenzo Marcello was killed on the first day. Marcello (1603-1656) was a Venetian admiral and Capitano Generale da Mar (Captain General of the Sea - thewartime commander-in-chief of the Venetian navy).
