In 8vo, cardboard binding. Restoration on the inner margin of the first two leaves.
Rare first edition. In the summer of 1779, while he was being treated in Abano, Casaanova. took up his pen again and wrote this booklet. Dedicated to Doge Paolo Renier, this is a real pamphlet, in which the French writer, who died the previous year, but whose death was still very much regret, is bitterly criticized. Casanova follows step by step the traditional praises read to the French Academy by his successor, Jean-François Ducis, and by its director, the Abbot of Radonvilliers, replying to each point with such animosity as to have the opposite effect.
