Lievi tracce d’usura alle legature, internamente sporadico foxing, in complesso bell’esemplare. 

La migliore edizione della migliore traduzione, ancora oggi un classico. Si tratta della seconda edizione, ampliata, della traduzione del marchese Garnier. La traduzione del testo di Smith occupa i volumi da 1 a 4; gli ultimi due volumi sono dedicati alle numerose note e osservazioni del traduttore.
Smith fornì la prima importante espressione della teoria del libero scambio: favorevole alla libertà individuale e all’accumulazione della ricchezza, sostiene al tempo stesso con forza l'equità morale e il dovere verso la società. In quest’opera descrive un sistema di libertà e giustizia naturale che mira a migliorare lo standard di vita della popolazione generale, incoraggiando salari più alti per una forza lavoro più sana e produttiva. La traduzione di Garnier non solo divenne il testo francese standard, ma le sue note e osservazioni furono tradotte per l'edizione di Glasgow del 1805 e frequentemente ristampate in seguito, questa traduzione fu usata da Karl Marx ed è superiore all'edizione del 1810 con note completamente riviste e molte aggiunte.

The best edition of the best translation, still a classic today. This is the second, expanded edition of Marquis Garnier's translation. The translation of Smith's text occupies volumes 1 to 4; the last two volumes are devoted to the translator's numerous notes and observations.
Smith provided the first important expression of the theory of free trade: favourable to individual freedom and the accumulation of wealth, he at the same time strongly advocates moral equity and duty to society. In this work, he describes a system of freedom and natural justice that aims to improve the standard of living of the general population by encouraging higher wages for a healthier and more productive workforce. Garnier's translation not only became the standard French text, but his notes and observations were translated for the Glasgow edition of 1805 and frequently reprinted thereafter, this translation was used by Karl Marx and is superior to the 1810 edition with completely revised notes and many additions.
