Album in folio oblungo. 270x350mm. Legatura originale in tessuto marrone decorato con motivi geometrici e floreali in filo dorato. 50 Fotografie, stampe all’albumina con coloritura a mano coeva. Fotografie di 195x250 mm, montate su cartoncini rigidi.

La prima parte contiene fotografie con vedute di città, paesaggi, monumenti, quasi tutte corredate da didascalia in inglese, talvolta impreciso, e numero di catalogazione. Particolarmente notevole il gigantesco Buddha [Daibutsu) in bronzo di Kamamura, qui colorato in azzurro, con didascalia Daibuthu at Kamakura. Nella seconda parte soprattutto scene di costume, che hanno reso celebre il Kusakabe Kimbei: fra queste numerosi ritratti di ragazze in splendidi Kimono. L’album si chiude con la veduta di una piantagione di riso, che reca il titolo “Rice planting”.

Condition Report

Oblong folio album. 270x350mm. Original binding in brown fabric decorated with geometric and floral motifs in golden thread. 50 Photographs, albumin prints, contemporary handcoloured. Photographs of mm 195x250, mounted on rigid cardboard.

The first part contains photographs with views of cities, landscapes, monuments, almost all accompanied by a caption in English, sometimes imprecise, and a catalog number. Particularly noteworthy is the gigantic bronze Buddha [Daibutsu) of Kamamura, here colored in blue, with the caption Daibuthu at Kamakura. In the second part above all costume scenes, which made Kusakabe Kimbei famous: among these numerous portraits of girls in splendid Kimono. The album ends with a view of a rice plantation, which bears the title "Rice planting".
