ROSA, Salvator. Le Figurine. Salvator Rosa Invenit. Liber Primus [- Tertius].
A Paris, chez Chéreau, s.d. [circa 1718-1729]

4to. 238x194 mm. Serie completa con 60 tavole incise all’acquaforte, numerate 1-60 a partire dal Frontespizio illustrato. Fioriture nelle prime quattro tavole, per il resto ottimo stato di conservazione, tavole con ampi margini. 

Quest’opera, più nota come “Le Figurine”, fu pubblicata dall’editore e incisore francese François Chéreau, in rue St Jacques, Paris, con il titolo “Salvator Rosa Invenit. Liber Primus”. Il titolo “Liber Secundus” compare nella tavola 16; il titolo “Liber Tertius” nella tavola 31. In entrambe queste tavole, sotto l’immagine, l’iscrizione “Salv. Rosa pinx”. 
La prima edizione di questa serie, più nota come le Figurine, fu realizzata dal Rosa in 62 tavole all’acquaforte incise tra il 1656 e il 1657. Almeno otto diverse copie della stessa edizione furono eseguite tra la fine del XVII e la prima metà del XVIII secolo.

Condition Report

4to. 238x194 mm. Complete series of 60 plates engraved on copper, numbered 1-60 with starts from illustrated titlepage. Foxing in the first 4 plates, but nice condition with plates with wide margins.

This work, better known as “Le Figurine”, published by the French publisher and engraver François Chéreau, in rue St Jacques, Paris, under the title “Salvator Rosa Invenit. Liber Primus ". The title “Liber Secundus” compares on plate 16; the title “Liber Tertius” on plate 31. In both these plates, under the image, the inscription “Salv. Rosa pinx ".
The first edition of this series, better known as the Figurine, was made by Rosa in 62 etching plates engraved between 1656 and 1657. At least eight different copies of the same edition were made between the end of the 17th and the first half of the XVIII century.
