Quattro parti in un volume. Folio, 370 × 235 mm. Legatura in pelle marmorizzata con titolo in oro su tassello al dorso a 6 nervi, ricca doratura al dorso, doppi filetti dorati ai piatti, firmata alla fine Josse Schavye maestro legatore belga, 1822-1905. Con 2 titoli incisi, elenchi di tavole con bordi figurati e 76 tavole in rame (1-24 e A-E, 25-50 e 1-3, 12, 6) di Anna Folkema, Joost van Sasse e Pieter van Buysen in cornici incise separatamente con grottesche. Due Ex-Libris incollati al contropiatto. Impronte nere. Bell’esemplare.

Rarissima edizione completa, in grande formato con le splendide cornici, molto raro. Straordinarie raffigurazioni grottesche e satiriche di professioni, vizi e caratteri tipici della Commedia dell’Arte, racchiuse entro stupende bordure grottesche con figure; lungo il lato inferiore si sviluppa una scena con altre caratterizzazioni satiriche. 
Pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1715-16 con sole 58 tavole in ottavo, sulla base del “Callotto resuscitato oder [...] Zwerchencabinet” di Augsburg, 1710 ca, la serie fu poi ampliata alle dimensioni attuali entro il 1720 e pubblicata in parte in 4to e in parte in folio con cornice. Entrambe le varianti sono composte da due titoli in rame e da 24 e 26 tavole con un totale di 8 fogli aggiuntivi, una serie di mesi gennaio-dicembre e sei tavole di grottesche coppie di sposi senza titoli propri. Le legende sono incise nelle tavole in tedesco, francese e olandese. 
Targhetta datata 1888 dell'importante antiquario e collezionista d'arte francese Alfred Beurdeley 1847-1919. La parte principale della sua enorme collezione fu messa all'asta postuma, la biblioteca nel febbraio 1921.

Full leather binding, gilt titles on label at the spine with 6 ribs, double gilt rules on covers, signed Josse Schavye, Belgian master bookbinder, 1822-1905. 2 engraved titles and 76 plates (1-24 e A-E, 25-50 e 1-3, 12, 6) of Anna Folkema, Joost van Sasse and Pieter van Buysen within frames separately engraved with grotesque. Two Ex libris pasted to inside cover. Good specimen.

Extremely rare complete edition, in large size with splendid frames. Extraordinary grotesque and satirical depictions of professions, vices and characters typical of the Commedia dell’Arte, enclosed within wonderful grotesque borders with figures; along the lower side a scene develops with other satirical characterisations.
First published in 1715-16 with only 58 octavo plates, based on the “Callotto resuscitato oder [...] Zwerchencabinet” in Augsburg, ca. 1710, the series was then enlarged to its current size by 1720 and published partly in 4to and partly in framed folio. Both variants consist of two copperplate titles and 24 and 26 plates with a total of 8 additional leaves, a series of months January-December and six plates of grotesque married couples without proper titles. The captions are engraved in the plates in German, French and Dutch.
Ex-Libris dated 1888 of the important French antiquarian and art collector Alfred Beurdeley 1847-1919. The main part of his enormous collection was auctioned posthumously, the library in February 1921.
