Incisione su rame. 280x367 mm. Margine superiore rifilato. Iscrizioni sotto l’immagine: a sinistra ‘Painted by W.m Hogarth’; al centro ‘ Titolo’; ai due lati del titolo ‘The Explanation ...’ Buone condizioni.

BM: “Satire on the state lottery; emblematic representation of a draw at Guildhall with two lottery wheels and allegorical figures. 1724. Etching and engraving” La spiegazione delle figure allegoriche è scritta sotto l'immagine.

Incisione su rame. 290x510 mm. Rifilata in alto sull’inciso della lastra. Iscrizioni: in alto a sinistra, sopra l’immagine ‘Plate 8’; sotto l’immagine: a sinistra ‘Design by W Hogarth’; versi su quattro colonne che cominciano con ‘Quoth he, This Sheme o’ th' Heav’ns set’; al centro su colonna separata, il titolo. Foxing. 

Tavola 8 della serie Hudibras, che illustra il poema di Samuel Butler: Hudibras è un colonnello dell'esercito di Cromwell, coinvolto n varie avventure comiche. BM: “Copy of Plate 8: Hudibras confronts the astrologer Sidrophel in an apothecary's laboratory; from the ceiling and wall hang a stuffed crocodile, swordfish, turtle and other creatures; to left, a cupboard door is open to reveal a skeleton with an owl on its shoulder; on the floor, are a glass jar containing a homunculus or foetus, a globe, various scientific instruments, a cat and a mouse-trap; illustration to an unidentified publication.”

Engraving. 260x367 mm. Trimmed top margin. Below the image inscriptions: on left ‘Painted by W.m Hogarth’; in the centre “Title”; on the both side of title ‘The Explanation ... Good condition.
