Acquaforte, mm. 246x162, applicata su cartoncino di mm, 264x183, impresso su carta vergellata. Firmato in basso a dx “Ant. van Dyck pinxit et fecit aqua forti”. Timbro di collezione al verso “VR”. Buon esemplare.

Snyders nacque e morì nella sua città natale, Anversa. Nel 1593 era allievo del pittore Pieter Brueghel il Giovane e in seguito entrò nella bottega di Hendrick van Balen, primo maestro anche di van Dyck. Snyders è stato molto legato a van Dyck, che lo ritrasse più di una volta.
Fu il pittore prediletto dell'arciduca Alberto d'Austria, governatore dei Paesi Bassi spagnoli, per il quale eseguì molti dei suoi capolavori. Uno di questi fu presentato a Filippo III di Spagna che, assieme al suo successore Filippo IV, commissionò a Snyders diverse tele, ora conservate a Madrid. Lavorò anche per l'arciduca Leopoldo Guglielmo d'Austria.

Etching, mm. 246x162, applied on cardboard measuring 264x183 mm, printed on laid paper. Signed lower right “Ant. van Dyck pinxit et fecit aqua forti ". Collection stamp on the verso "VR". Good specimen.

Snyders was born and died in his hometown, Antwerp. In 1593 he was a pupil of the painter Pieter Brueghel the Younger and later entered the workshop of Hendrick van Balen, the first master also of van Dyck. Snyders was very attached to van Dyck, who portrayed him more than once.
He was the favorite painter of Archduke Albert of Austria, governor of the Spanish Netherlands, for whom he executed many of his masterpieces. One of these was presented to Philip III of Spain who, together with his successor Philip IV, commissioned several paintings from Snyders, now preserved in Madrid. He also worked for Archduke Leopold William of Austria.
