Acquaforte. 242x168 mm. Rifilata sul rame. In basso al centro “Mariette excud”. Piccolissima mancanza in alto a sinistra. Buono stato di conservazione. 

Stampa popolare francese della fine del XVII secolo, che raffigura le nozze in un villaggio di contadini. In alto il titolo, in basso due quartine: "Cet Espous et cette Espousée / Parmy leurs amoureux deuis / Sont plus dignes à mon aduis / De louange que de ...” Si tratta della stampa in controparte della rarissima incisione “L'Espousee de village” di Jasper de Isaac, un esemplare presente presso il Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, il museo principale di Rotterdam. 
Jean Mariette, libraio, incisore e commerciante di stampe e carte, figlio di Pierre II Mariette, editore e commerciante di stampe a Parigi, fu attivo come mercante di stampe da prima del 1686. Nel maggio 1693 sposò la figlia dello stampatore-libraio Jean-Baptiste I Coignard. Nel 1716, ereditò il fondo e la casa di Pierre II Mariette. In seguito vendette parte del suo fondo di incisioni nel 1733 e nel 1734. Fu il padre di Pierre-Jean Mariette.

Etching, 242x168 mm. Trimmed on plate. On the lower: “Mariette excud”. Very little loss on the left top. Good condition.

French popular print of the late 17th century depicting a wedding in a peasant village. At the top the title, at the bottom two quatrains: "Cet Espous et cette Espousée / Parmy leurs amoureux deuis / Sont plus dignes à mon aduis / De louange que de ..." This is the counterpart print of the very rare engraving "L'Espousee de village” by Jasper de Isaac, aspecimenpresent at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the main museum of Rotterdam. Jean Mariette, bookseller, engraver and trader of prints and plates, son of Pierre II Mariette, publisher and trader of prints in Paris, was active as a print dealer since before 1686. In May 1693 he married the daughter of the printer-bookseller Jean- Baptiste I Coignard. In 1716, he inherited the estate and house of Pierre II Mariette. He later sold part of his collection of engravings in 1733 and 1734. He was the father of Pierre-Jean Mariette.
