Slave trade Bounties. Arret du Conseil d’Etat du Roi, Qui ordonne que la gratification accordee au Commerce pour la Traite des Negres, sera restituee a l’Adjudicataire des Fermes, avec moitie en sus, par les Armateurs qui l’auront recue, & qui n’auront pas importe des Noirs aux Colonies. Du 5 Juin 1785.

Importante decreto che modifica il sovvenzionamento dello Stato per la tratta degli schiavi. I premi ai trafficanti erano stati creati su richiesta dei proprietari terrieri delle colonie che abbisognavano di manodopera a causa del debole aumento in loco della popolazione schiava. Ma alcuni armatori erano fraudolenti e questa sentenza mirava quindi a contrastare coloro che beneficiavano di queste sovvenzioni senza averne diritto. Si cita un negoziante di Havre che aveva inviato una nave in Guinea e aveva riportato in Francia “des gommes & des dents d'éléphants, au lieu de transporter des noirs”.

Important decree modifying the state subsidy for the slave trade. The bonuses to the traffickers had been created at the request of the landowners of the colonies who were in need of manpower due to the small local increase of the slave population. But some shipowners were fraudulent and this ruling therefore aimed at countering those who benefited from these subsidies without being entitled to them. A shopkeeper from Havre is quoted as having sent a ship to Guinea and had brought “des gommes & des dents d'éléphants, au lieu de transporter des noirs” back to France.
