12mo oblungo, 105 x 145 mm. Legatura coeva in piena pelle con fregi a secco, sguardie marmorizzate. Antiporta, Frontespizio inciso, 29 tavole calcografiche, foglio con indice delle tavole, 6 tavole aggiuntive relative ai principati tedeschi sempre edite da Lobeck. In totale 35 tavole in coloritura coeva. Ex libris Horace Landau. Lievi difetti alla legatura. Internamente qualche leggera traccia d’umidità.

Interessante 'Pocket Atlas' con le raffinate carte acquarellate d’epoca incise da Tobias Lobeck su disegni del Lotter, mentre antiporta e frontespizio sono stati disegnati da Gottfried Eichler. L'Atlante comprende: un doppio emisfero del mondo, un doppio emisfero con la mappa celeste, carte dell'Europa, dell'Asia, dell'Africa e delle Americhe, e vari paesi e regioni d'Europa, molti dei quali ornati da un cartiglio. La mappa intitolata “America” mostra sia l'America del Nord che quella del Sud, con la parte settentrionale in una fase non ancora completata, poiché questa zona era ancora in gran parte inesplorata. Nella carta dell'Asia, la costa settentrionale dell'Australia. Al volume si aggiungono le 6 tavole aggiuntive relative ai principati tedeschi sempre edite da Lobeck.

Condition Report

Oblong 12mo, 105x145 mm. Contemporary full leather binding with blind toolings on covers, marbled endpapers. Engraved titlepage and frontispiece, 29 engraved plates, sheet with “Index Mapparum” and six additional plates on the German principalities, also published by Lobeck, are added to the volume. Total of 35 contemporary coloring plates. Ex Libris of Horace Landau. Slight defects on binding. Some slight waterstains on some sheets.

Interesting ‘Pocket Atlas’ with fine contemporary watercolor maps engraved by Tobias Lobeck from drawings by Lotter, while the frontispiece and the title-page were designed by Gottfried Eichler.
The Atlas includes: a double-hemisphere map of the world, a double planisphere of the heavens, maps of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, and various countries and regions of Europe, many ornate with a cartouche. The map titled "America" shows both North and South America with the northern portion in a somewhat unfinished stage, since this area was still largely unexplored. In the Asia's map, the northern coast of Australia. Six additional plates on the German principalities, also published by Lobeck, are added to the volume.
