Important source of art. The castle of Villacerf was destroyed during the French Revolution. The architect Pierre Cottard, c. 1620 – 1701, was called by the new owner, Édouard Colbert, to renovate the Castle; the works were completed in 1672. This print was included in the work ‘Recueil des oeuvres du Sieur Cottart, architecte’ published in 1686.

On the website ‘Israël Silvestre et ses descendants’ this print is attributed to Israel Silvestre, 1621 – 1691, a prolific French designer, engraver and printmaker specializing in topographical views and perspectives of famous buildings. A copy at the Municipal Library of Nancy.
