NOLLI, Carlo - MORGHEN, Giovanni Elia. Playing putti.
Naples, Second half of the 18th century
2 Copper engravings on laid paper with hand coloring. Images of 98x150 mm. Good condition
Two scenes with winged putti. Engravings with magnificent hand colouring, with brilliant gouache colours, reproducing the chromaticism of the frescoes that emerged from the archaeological excavations of the mid-18th century.
They were included, without colouring, in the monumental work ‘Le Antichità di Ercolano spiegate’, Naples, Regia Stamperia, 1757-1792. Twenty-five leading artists were involved in preparing drawings and engravings on the finds, including Giovanni Elia Morghen, Carlo Nolli and Giovanni Battista Casanova.
