Acqueforti di 410x890 mm e 358x875 mm. Foxing molto leggero, ma buon esemplare.

Rarissime tavole che illustrano gli affreschi di Michelangelo delle lunette nella volta della Cappella Sistina. Le lunette raffigurano i simboli della Passione di Cristo come la Colonna della flagellazione e la croce.
Queste stampe fanno parte di un set di sedici che comprende il Giudizio Universale di Metz dopo l'affresco di Michelangelo nella Cappella Sistina.
Le incisioni di Metz “avrà a un ruolo importante nel diffondere la fama dell'affresco di Michelangelo”. Metz riproduce il Giudizio Universale così come era conosciuto all'epoca, con l'aggiunta dei lombi non molto tempo dopo la morte di Michelangelo”.

Very rare plates illustrating Michelangelo's frescoes of the lunettes in the vault of the Sistine Chapel. The lunettes depict the symbols of the Passion of Christ such as the Column of the Flagellation and the Cross.
These prints are part of a set of sixteen that include the Metz Last Judgement after Michelangelo's fresco in the Sistine Chapel.
The Metz etchings “will play a major role in spreading the fame of Michelangelo's fresco”. Metz reproduces the Last Judgement as it was known at the time, with the addition of the loins not long after Michelangelo's death”.
