Silografia stampata su due fogli separati di mm. 465x615 e 385x615. Tavola di mm. 850x615. III stato su III. Titolo in alto. Nell’angolo sinistro in basso apocrifa iscrizione che attribuisce l’immagine a Domenico Campagnola e la data 1517. Buono stato di conservazione.


Rarissimo foglio volante, splendida allegoria dei favori e dei disastri provocati dalla Fortuna. Ristampa ottocentesca ricavata da due legni, eseguiti probabilmente in ambito veneto nel XVI secolo.

Sono noti tre stati: il primo privo di iscrizioni oltre al titolo, il secondo reca il monogramma 1550 MG in basso a destra mentre il terzo non reca questo monogramma ma l'iscrizione apocrifa in basso  a sinistra "DOMINICUS CAMPAGNOLA MDXVII". 

Rigoli: “La fortuna nuda, gli occhi bendati, seduta sull’instabile sfera del mondo, elargisce i suoi doni. Essi piovono sulla folla disordinata che si accalca ai piedi dell’albero provocando invidie e liti. … Nello sfondo mentre una nave va a gonfie vele verso il mare aperto, un’altra affonda, mentre una città brucia lontano un’altra fiorisce vicino".

Woodcut printed on two separate sheets of mm. 465x615 and 385x615. Table of mm. 850x615. III state on III. Title at the top. In the lower left corner apocryphal inscription which attributes the image to Domenico Campagnola and the date 1517. Good condition.


Very rare flying sheet, splendid allegory of the favors and disasters caused by Fortune. Reprint of the 19th century from two separete wood blocks probably made in the Veneto area in the 16th century.

Three states are known: the first without inscriptions other than the title, the second bears the monogram 1550 MG in the lower right while the third does not bear this monogram but the apocryphal inscription in the lower left " DOMINICUS CAMPAGNOLA MDXVII".

Rigoli: "Naked luck, blindfolded, sitting on the unstable sphere of the world, bestows his gifts. They rain on the disordered crowd that crowds at the foot of the tree causing envy and quarrels. ... In the background while a ship is booming towards the open sea, another sinks, while one city burns away another blooms nearby. ...
