Portrait of Nikolaus Cisnerus.

Incisione su rame. 172x130 mm. Marginino. Ritratto entro ovale con nome e titoli nella cornice. Nell’immagine, in basso a sinistra D.C. [= Dominicus Custos]. In fondo a destra monogramma “Q.R. fac.”. Sotto l’immagine notizie sulla vita del letterato, in latino. Incisione incollata su cartoncino di supporto. Tracce d’uso, buona conservazione. 

Nikolaus Cisnerus, Mosbach 1529 - Heidelberg 1583, fu eminente studioso del Palatinato, umanista, avvocato e poeta. Fu rettore dell'Universitŕ di Heidelberg e giudice alla Corte della Camera del Reich a Spira. 
Dominicus Custos, artista fiammingo nato ad Antwerp, tipografo e incisore di rame, di stabilě ad Augsburg come secondo marito della vedova di Bartolomeo Kilian (1548-1588). Ebbe una fiorente attivitŕ, specializzandosi soprattutto nel ritratto di personaggi illustri.

Condition Report

Engraving. 172x130 mm. Little margin. Portrait within oval with name and titles on frame. Under the illustration news in latin on Cisnerus’ life. Engraving glued on cardboard. Traces of wear, good condition.

Nikolaus Cisnerus, Mosbach 1529 - Heidelberg 1583, was an eminent Palatinate scholar, humanist, lawyer and poet. He was rector of the University of Heidelberg and judge at the court of the Reich Chamber in Speyer.
Dominicus Custos, a Flemish artist born in Antwerp, printer and copper engraver, settled in Augsburg as the second husband of the widow of Bartholomew Kilian (1548-1588). He had a flourishing business, specializing above all in the portrayal of famous people.
